You might dread moving. If you’ve gone through it a couple of times, that makes sense. Moving comes with some particular headaches, and most people don’t like enduring the process.
However, you need to do it sometimes, and you can take steps to make sure your move goes according to plan. We’ll discuss that now.
Choose the Right Moving Company
First, you will want to select a moving company with excellent reviews. Maybe you know someone who moved not too long ago, and they can give you a recommendation.
You can also look on the moving company’s website. Do they seem professional? Do they mention what areas they serve? Do they discuss their pricing structure? If you see all of that, then you can probably hire them with more confidence.
Give the Movers Enough Advance Notice
You probably want to give your movers at least two months of notice before your moving date. You can try to call them with your move closer than that, but often, you can’t easily book an appointment that way.
Most moving companies remain pretty busy. Also, you want to give yourself plenty of time to pack.
Start Packing at the Appropriate Time
You will want to start packing at the appropriate time. That time will vary. You need to think about what you will require and how long you should keep it out and readily available.
For example, if you’re moving from your current house or apartment to a new one, then you will probably want to box up things like books and artwork a couple of weeks before the move. However, you can leave at least some of your dishes, cups, and silverware out till right before the moving date. This way, you can use them for meals, and you won’t have to eat with your fingers.
Have the Money Ready
When the moving date arrives, make sure you have the money ready that you said you’d pay the movers. You should talk to the company beforehand about how you will pay.
Some companies will give you a slight discount if you pay in a certain way. For instance, you might have cash on hand if the company told you they’d knock 5% off the total price tag.
You Should Be There to Supervise the Move
You should count on staying at the original moving site while the move takes place. The movers may have a question they need you to answer.
It is also nice if you have some cold drinks for the movers. Maybe you can have some bottles of water or Gatorade handy. The movers will appreciate that, especially if it’s the middle of summer and they’re dealing with hot weather.
When the movers load everything up, you can head to the new house or apartment. You can let them in when arrive, and you can make sure they put each box and piece of furniture in the right rooms.
